This morning I bought the Irish Times and got a headache. Two things caused deep annoyance; and they are related: the State will pursue one of our best Heritage campaigners for 500,000 Euros costs and a letter in the Letter's Page talks of Cregganbaun and Killary in relation to Eamon Ryan's granting of licences to prospectors for gold.Killary Harbour is a Fjord, it provided a place for Wittgenstein to think and its got a quality of silence that should be left undisturbed-but thats what you get when self-publicists get into the Dail- Rattle and Hum. read full story / add a comment

The ruling in today’s third Supreme Court decision in the carrickmines Castle saga has left the door open for a full constitutional challenge to the National Monuments Act 2004, as a whole, which will be heard by the Supreme Court in relation to the Hill of Tara and the M3 motorway on October 11. read full story / add a comment

The Supreme Court will deliver its third judgment tomorrow morning at 10.45AM in the carrickmines Castle/M50 saga, and the decision will have a major impact on the Hill of Tara/M3 case now being appealed to the Supreme Court. The setting of a hearing date in the Hill of Tara / M3 motorway case was postponed today by the Chief Justice, the Hon. Mr. Justice John Murray. He said he will set a hearing date after written submissions were received by Respondents, The Attorney General, The Minister for the Environment, Meath County Council, and the National Roads Authority, due on 24th July. read full story / add a comment

* Update on campaign to save the Hill of Tara from the M3 motorway – 12 March 2006 A discrete national monument has been discovered in the pathway of the M3 motorway, during investigative archaeological excavations. It is entitled Baronstown 1, by the NRA, and lies just on the other side of the N3, between the hills of Tara and Skryne. It can be seen at: http://www.m3motorway.ie/Archaeology/Section2/Baronstown1/ A protest involving local and national activist groups is planned for 12.00PM, March 15th, at 'Baronstown 1', a newly discovered national monument in the pathway of the M3 motorway. Evidence regarding this site was not allowed to be presented in the High Court case, because Justice Smyth denied an application for cross-examination of expert witnesses. read full story / add a comment

The economic boom in Ireland and the construction boom that has come alongside it has led to a growth in the importance of environmental campaigns. There has frequently been a large gap between the environmentalists involved in such campaigns and the left - including anarchists.
