Briliant!
What has the deportation of Kunle got to do with RAR? What has racism got to do with the deportation of RAR? Many eastern europeans have been deported and no furore made of it. Is it solely because he so happens to be black? If he does not meet the criteria for asylum in this country he should not be entitiled to stay. This is nothing more than politically correct bandwagon rubbish.
...Just a racist trying to stir things. Great day well done to all involved. May it be the first of many.
Anyone who raises a voice against allowing a failed asylum seeker to stay here is immediately labelled a racist. If the issue of immigration can't be debated without shrill, self-righteous cries of "racist!", then don't be surprised if twats like Barrett and O'Conaill get increased support.
If only there were a handy reference that you could use your computer to find an example of one of the Eastern European deportations that RAR aren't publicising........
Interesting webpage. 5 minutes well spent.
Tomorrow, I expect we will see the name Bobowicz plastered on posters with pictures as RAR revels in the spotlight, and grabs the opportunity to highlight their case.
Perhaps, next week, they will devote a protest for their benefit alone proving for once and for all that they are not exclusively zeroed in on one race of deportee.
is a bit misleading, the European Union now comprises 25 states, the only states of Europe "in the east" which do not share freedom of movement rights are now :-
The Balkans, Bylerussia, Ukraine, Rumania and Bulgaria and Russia.
With the exception of Bylerussia and certain of the Balkan "former yoguslav" states the regimes are not currently consider to be in breach of human rights or to endanger re-patriated citizens in any comparable degree to Nigeria. This alone is justification for highlighting the return of any migrant from Ireland to Nigeria.
Both the Ukraine and Russia are currently in negotiations with the EU to establish new protocols for migrant exchange.
There is minimal migration from Bylerussia to Ireland and negligible asylum applicants.
There is a common misconception that Roma gypsies originate in Rumania, and the continuing mass nomadism of the post Ceucescu orphange generation of Rumania does admittedly mean there are numbers of Rumanians in Ireland but not in any great percentages when compared to mainland European states.
Today the 2nd of April 2005
is European anti-detention / migrant internment centre day of struggle.
The frontiers of the European Union are where the illusion of the celtic tiger end, the fortress is walled by shame and see daily death on the seas on the south as the poorest try to enter or are trafficked.
These are issues which have been mishandled and all to often the primary victims are the ones who suffer the most criminalisation.
.:.these are intolerable wrongs.:.
Not only for those who try and enter, not only for those who are later expelled, but also for those who are used as the closest to slave labour possible in the richest states of the Eurasian landmass.
These are intolerable wrongs for those whose work it is to daily lift the dying from rafts in the seas to the south, those whose job it is to daily monitor borders where prostitution is offered at discount on the back of trans-national networks that are implicated in the traffic of human beings, hard drugs, arms and slaves.
These are intolerable wrongs for those left behind, whose loved ones in search of a better life, or enticed into the worst they may imagine, can not even trust to European civilised values to ensure that basic human rights and dignity of migrants is respected.
We are a nomadic and migrant people and species.
No Person is illegal.
No border is moral.
I think the answer is to expand the scope of the present work permits scheme,
"I think the answer is to expand the scope of the present work permits scheme".
Yes, I agree with this. If there is no facility where by people have a fair chance of being granted a work permit then its unsurprising that there are cases where people instead apply to stay here under the asylum system and are refused. We're a
rich country, people obviously want to work and earn money. My anecdotal evidence says that many immigrants want to earn for
a few years here and return home to start a business and own a home (I don't know whether Irish culture made an impression
but quite a few people wanted to own a pub!). Those that dont want to make Ireland their home and contribute. None wanted to "steal" our jobs, women and eat our children. Its surprises me that Irish people of all peoples (there are 40 million of us, 10% in Ireland) are so cynical when it comes to immigrants coming here for a change. The fact that the government isn't accomodating of certain nationalities and certain skin colours creates stereotypes and creates racism when its obvious to some that people from certain countries and of certain colours are false asylum seekers.
I do have a problem though with labelling anybody who has anything bad to say about immigration as racist. I've seen it in this thread. Surely, at the very least from a tactical point of view, it would make sense not to insult people whose point of view you would like to change? For the sake of argument, if I was to say that failed asylum seekers should be deported does that make me a racist? Where is the logic in that? What have I said thats racist? Couldn't a failed asylum seeker be a white
power Swastika-loving lunatic? Would I be a racist for wanting him/her out of the country?
Labelling the policy of the government as racist is correct, labelling anybody who disagrees with you as being racist -by
virtue of the fact they do not agree with your position on asylum seekers is crass to say the least and quite infuriating Im
sure for those who are not racist but who dont agree with the SWP on the issue asylum seekers and immigration.
Unfortunately, given the complete lack of sophistication of many left wing groups in this country, but particularly the SWP
imo, its not surprising that their members cannot make the distinction between the government policy and somebody who might
not hate it quite as much as the SWP do. Remembering the citizenship referendum, calling the campaign an "anti-racist"
campaign and labelling every person who disagreed with you as "racist" was mindbogglingly insane. Here's a tip for anybody who might be a member of any group involved in a similar campaign: if you want to win people over DO NOT, I repeat: DO NOT
start insulting them. Its very easy to see how the referendum was passed so comfortably. And its an example of the complete
lack of vision, thinking and plain old common sense within some of the groups that came together for the campaign, typified
,I think, by the SWP.
Just been looking at the no one is illegal website in the uk. Manifesto and articles well worth a look. Is there anything similar here?
