Rab reciting poetry A new literary website Transformation was recently launched by the Arts Office of NUI, Galway, it features a collection of tales of terror and lyrical poetry by scottish/irish dissident writer Rab Swannock Fulton. The website is here: http://frink.nuigalway.ie/~rab/
Rab’s work has featured on television, radio and in various publications including: Books Ireland, Chapman, Criterion, Cutting Teeth, Cyphers, The Guardian, The Herald, Northwords, Poetry Ireland Review, Poetry London Newsletter, Poetry Scotland, Rebel Inc, The Shop, West Coast Magazine, West 47, etc.
One of Rab’s poems Tear The Fence Down (a poem about love), written in response to the vilification and condemnation of anti-war action around the time of the attempted mass trespass at Shannon on March 1st 2002, was published on indymedia.
Here it is: http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?id=31485
One story on the site, The Face of God, was written in response to the way 9/11 was used to justify the attack on Afghanistan.
Rab lived for several years in Faslane Peace camp, where he developed his talents as a writer and is currently banned from county Clare, following prosecution for anti-war activities.
Most of the stories on the site have a weird gothic horror ambience, sometimes with anti-war/anti-racist undertones.
Here are some photos from the poetry reading at the launch, which I can’t really say too much about due to free wine and my lack of comprehension of the Scotch language, which though I’ve got to say sounds pleasant enough.
Also reading poetry on the night was Lesley Sargent, another Scottish writer and activist.
Lesley worked with Rab on the anti-racist arts journal muc mhór dhubh. Her poignant magical realism novella The Heron was published in 2001.
