On November 19th the Tánaiste (Vice-Prime Minister in Ireland) Eamon Gilmore, addressed the parliamentary questions raised by TDs Maureen O’Sullivan, Clare Daly and Seán Crowe, in relation to growing concerns about the escalation of political repression in Colombia. In recent months, scores of left-wing activists, trade union organisers, protesters and human rights’ defenders have been murdered. UCD Student Union Council has called for a referendum in an attempt to repeal the boycott of Coca Cola products in SU outlets, which was put in place by referendum in 2003. When this referendum was passed it made UCDSU the first students union in the world to support the call for a boycott made by sinaltrainal a Columbian trade union whose members have been threatened and killed as part of a brutal campaign to stifle trade union activity in their bottling plants in Columbia since the beginning of the1990s. read full story / add a comment

On Saturday February 3rd delegates at the IUSY (International Union of Socialist Youth) World Council held in Cork passed a resolution in support of the Boycott of Coca Cola proposed by Labour Youth in Ireland. The boycott was called for in 2003 by the Colombian Trade Union sinaltrainal in response to the murder and intimidation of its members by Colombian paramilitaries with the complicity of the Coca Cola corporation. read full story / add a comment

Interview with UK students Against Coke activist Claire Hall who is coming to Ireland this weekend to speaking at the Connolly Festival. Lara Coleman from London based Colombia Solidarity who has just returned from Colombia where she worked for two months with sinaltrainal will also be speaking. Labour Councilor Billy Cameron submitted a motion to Galway City Council calling for solidarity with Coca-Cola workers in Colombia. Last night (Monday April 3rd) the motion was passed unanimously. The motion was drawn up in conjunction with the Noel Browne Labour Youth branch. This is another step forward for the boycott coke campaign. read full story / add a comment

This Trade Union has launched the international campaign to boycott all Coca Cola products due to the ongoing campaign by paramilitaries to crush trade unions within Coke bottling plants. An umbrella of 33 organisations in 25 countries has joined the call for a boycott of Coca Cola goods as the boycott continues to spread internationally. The resolution was put forward by Labour Youth and comes after the recent news that the third University of Rome has kicked Coke off campus.
