The Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, is currently conducting two separate public consultations, allegedly to protect Tara. There is the proposed Tara Skryne Landscape Conservation Area and the proposed Tara UNESCO World Heritage Site. But the Minister has not produced one single map showing the proposed areas, and has refused to answer Parliamentary Questions on the issue. read full story / add a comment

TaraWatch will hold a demonstration outside Dail Eireann on Kildare St tomorrow at 1.00pm, and demand that the Government halt work on the M3 within the Hill of Tara landscape and proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to the lawsuit being argued by the European Commission in the European Court of Justice against Ireland this week. read full story / add a comment

Members of TaraWatch and other groups will sell pieces of coal , dressed as 'fat- cats', tomorrow outside the Green party offices on Suffolk Street at noon tomorrow. The coal will signify the Green's preference for creating new taxes, to penalise carbon use, instead of seeking cuts in spending on carbon producing infrastructure like tolled motorways, in the upcoming Budget, like their own policy documents call for. read full story / add a comment

Great turnout at the Love Tara March. Around a thousand from all over the country march and make their voices heard. Environmental Impact Assesment for the whole M3 project unlawful. A massive prehistoric ‘henge’ site has been discovered in Lismullen, beside the Hill of Tara on the route of the planned M3 Motorway. The circular enclosure is the size of more than three football fields, and is without doubt a national monument because of the rarity of henges in Ireland, as well as its importance to the Hill of Tara archaeological complex. Yesterday morning, up to SIAC Construction 50 workers, with heavy machinery began full scale demolition of everything above ground at Tara. While reports were made onthe Campaign to Save Tara mailing list, no call went out for support, and no news report was made, even to Indymedia. The ruling in today’s third Supreme Court decision in the Carrickmines Castle saga has left the door open for a full constitutional challenge to the National Monuments Act 2004, as a whole, which will be heard by the Supreme Court in relation to the Hill of Tara and the M3 motorway on October 11. read full story / add a comment |
