"This one looks, walks and quacks like a duck. It's time to stop hedging and call this bird what it is." So writes Howard L. Berman, chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee in this morning's LA Times in an opinion article which demands that the US State deparment under Hillary Clinton formally declare the Honduran crises as coup & thus cut all funding. Yesterday in Westport District Court, Judge Mary Devins issued a bench warrant for a Shell to Sea protestor, who was appearing in the High Court, appealing his remanding in custody at the same time. While the Gardaí in Westport didn't seek to have the bench warrant issued and informed the court that protestor Eoin Lawless was appearing in the High Court at that time, Judge Devins insisted upon issuing a bench warrant. ... read full story / add a comment

A written reply to a Dáil question by Aengus Ó Snodaigh by justice minister Dermot Ahern shows that Garda personnel strength in a large majority of Irish counties is less than the number of Gardai deployed in Erris to protect Shell's interests. For example, Shell has more cops than Co. Clare, Co. Kerry, or Co Sligo. Shell also has more cops defending its corrupt Corrib Gas Project than there are Gardai 'defending' the citizens of Galway, Waterford or Dún Laoghaire. ... read full story / add a comment

The constitutional council of the republic of France has today published its 580th ruling this year. It overturns a Sarkozy law which would have allowed for the state to block internet access by all the kind of people who download movies, books, music and all that sort of general crap & fun regardless of whether they intented to enjoy it at home or sit by the side of a street like a third worlder and flog it to a passerby. This good news shall have repercussions on the European political level, the history of Human Rights, the shaping of the entertainment industry lobby strategy to tax RW CD' and storage devices & thus will make many more pages of news than malaria or Darfur. ... read full story / add a comment |
