I have to ask: does the Catholic Church have a death wish?

Hare coursing is a horribly cruel “sport” that is a crime in many jurisdictions. It’s bad enough that the Irish government allows it…but this week pictures circulating on social media (twitter and facebook) clearly show a Catholic Priest officially BLESSING a hare coursing venue. ... read full story / add a comment

The Al Mahmoud vessel has now left Waterford loaded with Cattle to make the 10-day trip to Tripoli in Libya. We know they tried to avoid the media and our VIGIL held on TUESDAY resulted in the ship leaving early to ‘avoid trouble at the dock’. Five security manned the checkpoint and even RTE were refused access to the ship.
Two Irish firms Murphy Hunter International and Quinn International are partnering with Syrian business Al Mahmoud to export the cattle to Libya.
We want to stop this trade and we ASK your help .

Good news from Northern Ireland . There is a growing trend of cruelty to animals in Ireland. Irish legislation has failed and continues to fail animals in this country. On Sunday, August 26th 2012 at 1pm Sharp meeting at the Garden of Remembrance, hundreds of compassionate and caring people and other respected groups will join together to peacefully march through Dublin's City centre for a lively and upbeat protest calling for tougher laws to stamp out animal abuse and to recognise animals as sentient beings. Looking away or leaving it to someone else is not an option, and will only prolong animal abuse. ... read full story / add a comment

national / animal rights / press release Thursday November 05, 2009 - 16:15 byBernie Barrett   image 2 images

Badgerwatch (Ireland) is calling on Environment Minister, Mr. John Gormley, for an immediate halt to the killing of badgers for their alleged role in the spread of bovine TB.

Latest figures released by the Department of Agriculture (DAFF) shows that almost 7,000 badgers were slaughtered by Department trappers in 2008.

Ironically, close on 30,000 ’reactor’ cattle failed to pass the TB skin test for the same period indicating a rise in TB levels over the previous six years.

Having been contacted by concerned individuals, many working in the airport. The wall mounted fish tanks on the ‘Street’ at Dublin Airport were again brought to our attention.

In 2006 AFAR did a demo at Dublin Airport and as a result had SEAHORSES removed from the ESTEE LAUDER Crème de la Mer tanks after hearing many Seahorses had died due to lack of feeding and regular care.
Now in 2009 the fish that had replaced the seahorses were suffering the same fate. ... read full story / add a comment

END the pathetic conditions for over 20 animals, including a Pregnant donkey in FUNTASIA’s noisy rooftop Petting Farm.
A noisy amusement and casino establishment in Bettystown has airlifted (by CHERRYPICKER) over 20 animals onto its roof in an effort to attract more clientele to its arcade and boost profits at 3 euro a head.
Funtasia last week got many of these animals from Jesse Callaghan, a farmer in Lunderstown, Duleek to use as a spectacle for the roof farm on their two story building. Chicken wire, plywood and a fully cemented roof is all that was provided by way of accommodation for a variety of animals including:
A pregnant Donkey in poor condition.... ... read full story / add a comment

The finding of three mutilated greyhound carcasses this week at a popular seaside resort (Kilteery Pier in County Limerick) shows just how expendable these animals are deemed by their owners once their performance days are over.

The likelihood that they were greyhounds bred for hare coursing, judging from their build, should serve as yet another reminder that we are one of the few remaining countries that still permit this depraved and viciously cruel blood sport.
