With his contemptible inversion and perversion of events in Erris last Friday, Demsey is rubbing salt into the wounds of the activists who journeyed to Rossport to engage in democratic protest and, were greeted instead with its antithesis : Brown Shirted thuggery in the form of wanton batoning, punching, kicking, treading on, women being tossed over fences like capers, vilication, goading, etc, the list of Gardai brutality and veniality is endless.

Professor Enda McDonagh, the Chairman of the Governing Body of UCC, has announced the identity and remit of the "external and independent" person to review allegations of "corruption", financial mismanagement and bullying at the university. In a move that seems destined to delay rather than supplant a formal enquiry, the remit is to exclude all issues that have already been put before the Governing Body and to include input from Professor Michael Shattock, a co-author of the OECD Report on Higher Education in Ireland that is central to UCC's own restructuring plans (http://www.ucc.ie/en/restructuring/). The oversight of the review process by the very people either involved in, or investigating, the excluded allegations would appear to generate the potential for significant conflicts of interest. ... read full story / add a comment

It seems that President of Ireland Mary McAleese has put her foot in it exposing the states intended attack on the Constitution before the official announcement supposedly being considered in secret by all State Parties. In her address Mrs McAleese indicated that the state focus is to be the ‘Home’ and not the Family. The independence of her office must preclude her from such insider knowledge. ... read full story / add a comment

Former UN Assistant Secretary General Hans von Sponeck, Professor Bernot Biehler, and Senator David Norris highlighted the futility of attempting to make peace by making war. On Friday November 10th 2006,
On The International Day of Action against Shell,
On Ken Saro-Wiwa Day, the 11th anniversary of his death by hanging, executed by Shell,
On the day when Shell’s Cops - Hell’s Cops, An Garda Síochána were ordered to step up their brutalisation of citizens with violent force and indiscriminate multiple beatings which resulted in the hospitalisation of peaceful protestors,
The, eh … ‘leader & prime minister?!’ of this country, Bertie Ahern, said this:

"The Rule of Shell Law has to be Implemented at Bellanaboy". - Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

In the title and text of this article, I CONSCIOUSLY INSERT ’SHELL’ into An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's statement, because HE CONSCIOUSLY OMITTED IT.

THIS IS NOT LIBEL, IT IS TRUTH, and I will argue that through every appropriate national and international court of justice available should he or his legal dogs decide, in their wisdom, to sue myself or Indymedia Ireland on this presentation of the facts.
Bertie Ahern, I challenge you.

Clarification: Please note that Niall H does NOT speak on behalf of Indymedia -Ed ... read full story / add a comment
