US soldiers killed 7 women and children who were attempting to flee Najaf. This was an implementation of the earlier publically stated policy of the US/K forces which announced an intention to shoot anyone that didn't stop at a check point. Contrast the reporting of this outrage with the simulated horror which greeted the uncomfirmed Pentagon-seeded stories about Iraqi troops firing upon civilians attempting to flee cities. ... read full story / add a comment

Despite all the marches, protests, and passion, the Irish anti-war movement has failed totally to end the use of Shannon as a warport. The vast majority of anti-war activists have failed to make any connection between Anglo-America's economic and political domination of Ireland, North and South, and the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq. To protest Anglo-American imperialism's attack on Iraq and ignore that same imperialism's much longer, and much deeper, penetration of Ireland's economy and polity, serves but to validate US/K's imperial grip on Ireland. The most effective way for the Irish anti-war movement to defeat Anglo-American imperialism, in Iraq or elsewhere, is to resist all its manifestations in Ireland. NHS: In late February 2003 Northern Ireland Office Health Minister Des Browne announced the closure of a number of hospitals across Northern Ireland. He was essentially adopting the proposals contained in what has become known as the “Hayes Report”. This pamphlet is being published by the Socialist Party as a comprehensive reply to the arguments of Hayes’.
