Just days after the future of the European Constitution is to be decided at a summit of EU leaders, the Forum will be hosting a public meeting in Cavan Town on Monday 20th June. It will be held in the Cavan Crystal Hotel at 8 pm. and is open to anyone to attend. European Affairs Minister Noel Treacy, who will be attending the EU Summit, and Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins will be there to answer your questions. The Minister, speaking for the Government, is in favour of the Constitution. Mr Higgins is campaigning against it.<br />

He believed that the rejection of the Constitution by the electorates of France and the Netherlands had dealt it a fatal blow. "The Dutch and French working classes have rejected the system whereby multinationals and the business elites dictate the policies of the EU", he said.<br />

Deputy Higgins also dismissed criticisms that people had voted on domestic issues instead of on the Constitution itself. "What's wrong with voting on domestic concerns? Is the Constitution so removed from day-to-day issues?" he asked. He claimed that voters were concerned about employers exploiting immigrant labour for their own profits, rather than paying everyone a decent wage.<br />
