Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown County Council is dragging 18 ordinary working people including pensioners before the High Court tomorrow (Wednesday) seeking injunctions against them for peacefully opposing the brutal new policy by which the refuse bins of tens of thousands of decent taxpayers are left uncollected.

Meanwhile, the Wicklow Times has published allegations of a stunning corruption scandal involving waste companies and some Council officials in Dun Laoghaire and Wicklow.

The article by Shay Fitzmaurice says that a waste disposal company paid €25,000 in a bribe to be allowed to dump waste in a Council site for free.

Joe Higgins T.D. sought to have this scandal debated in the Dáil today, but this request was refused.

We call for a full investigation of the links between waste disposal companies in Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown and Wicklow and relevant personnel in the Councils.

We call for the suspension of the non-collection policy of householders’ bins announced by Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown County Council.

Should residents be jailed for opposing the policy of non- collection, the Council will meet major protest action in the communities.
