Now when will we see 100 blocking one bin truck and refusing to'purge their contempt'. The state is attempting to call the bluff of the campaign. Will the campaign continue to raise the stakes? To be fairhttp://www.indymedia.ie/article/61564#comment488932003-10-10T13:22:12+00:00JoeA fair number of the 'usual suspects' have also been involved in blockades, afte...A fair number of the 'usual suspects' have also been involved in blockades, after all they also live somewhere and often in the areas where these blockades are happening. Colm from the ISN, for instance, who was one of those jailed yesterday, recently returned from Palestine where he had been with the International Solidarity Movement. (the organisation that stands in front of the Israeli bulldozers)

While you are right that 100+ being willing to be jailed would call the states bluff its important to underline that we really need people to take part on blockades even if they do not want to be jailed. We recognise that few people can afford two weeks in jail in terms of work and morgage payments. What we also need is lots of people willing to take a small level of risk by blocking trucks with hundreds of others.

Those who are willing to stand in front of the court and say 'jail me then' are playing a heroic part in winning this struggle. But it is the thousands behind them that helps give people the courage not only to do this but the feeling that it will be worthwhile. So don't feel that anyone will be disappointed in you if you take part in a blockade, end up in court and feel you have to back down. Going that far or even just moving off once the cops start taking names is 1000 times more valuable then sitting at home.
I think it is important that the people at the forefront of the campaign are there because they actually represent an area rather than their membership of a political organisation.
