Details of latest anti-royal visit protest announced
As the controversial itinerary for the upcoming state visit by Elizabeth Windsor is revealed éirígí have announced the details of their latest protest against that same visit. The protest, which is set to take place at 1pm on Saturday April 16th at the GPO in Dublin, will feature a piece of street theatre which will see ‘Elizabeth Windsor’ beheaded in a French revolution- style guillotine.
Speaking in advance of the protest cathaoirleach éirígí, Brian Leeson, said,
‘Our protest on April 16th will take place just one month before Windsor is scheduled to visit Dublin. It is the latest in a series of similar protests that éirígí have held over the last five years in opposition to all visits to all parts of Ireland by the British royal family. On this occasion our protest will include a piece of street theatre which will see an effigy of Elizabeth Windsor symbolically beheaded in a mock guillotine.
‘We have deliberately chosen the guillotine to make a very serious political point. It is closely associated with the French revolution, when the people of that country threw off the chains of monarchy in favour of freedom and republicanism based on equality, liberty and fraternity. And that was over two hundred years ago.
‘Yet here we are two centuries later and our people are still expected to bend the knee to a woman who was born into her role as head of the British state and commander-in-chief of the British military – a state and a military which continue to occupy the Six Counties.
‘The mock guillotining of Elizabeth Windsor symbolises that which needs to happen to all of those political and economic systems which are based upon inherited privilege, imperialism and class. The time of monarchy, imperialism and exploitation is well and truly past. Nothing makes that point quite as clearly as the guillotine.
‘We are inviting people from Dublin and beyond to join our protest at the GPO. It is clear that many, many people across Ireland are opposed to this visit. Now is the time for those people to come onto the streets and make it clear that if this visit goes ahead it will be met by widespread protest and defiance.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4With news that she is going to the Garden of Remembrance and Croke Park, it is beginning to look like those who are organizing the royal visit are the ones who are forward looking and progressive while the protesters seem backward and absurd.
Martin you completely miss the point. The vists to the Garden of Remberance and Croker are not happening because the Brit Queen has suddenly become enlightened. They are happening because she and her apologists in Ireland believe they can get away with it despite the glaring contradictions.
Have a think about these facts: The British Queen is the commander-in-chief of the British military, which was at least partially responsible for kiling 33 people in the Dublin/Monaghan bombings on MAY 17 1974. That date might ring a bell - its the day that has been chosen for her to start her state visit. Think about it - she is going to visit the garden of remembrance which is located on Parnell Square. Eleven people died when a British car bomb detonated on Parnell St on May 17 1974.
And the Dublin/Monaghan bombings are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issue of collusion between the British state and the unionist death squads. Hundreds of people died at the hands of these murder gangs which were armed, trained, directed and controlled by the British state. The evidence to support this is now overwhelming.
The British state, of which Windsor is head, has never admitted its role in its Irish dirty war. To this day they block all attempts to get to the truth about collusion.
And then there is the issue of Britain's offical death squads - the RUC, the UDR, the SAS and other British units. Between them they killed numerous Irish citizens and yet nobody has ever been held to account in any meaningful way.
In the last year the PSNI have again started firing plastic baton rounds in the Six Counties. It seems their bloodlust for injuring, blinding, crippling and killing Irish citizens has yet to be sated.
Lets not forget the 5000 British troops who remain stationed on Irish soil. Or the British military special forces who are operational in Ireland. Or the 9000 strong paramilitary PSNI. Or the 100s of MI5 spies that operate out of Palace Barracks.
I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. We'll be ready to 'move on' just as soon as the royalist extremists and their murder gangs leave our country.
The Dublin Monaghan Bombings, The SAS, British Security Forces, the Loyalists etc, what about ALL the deaths caused by the IRA and their Shoot to Kill and Bombing Campaign, where are the POW's they can release.
Lets be honest here folks everyone had a role to play in what happened in the North and nobody came out with their hands clean.
So lets MOVE ON Please.
"lets MOVE ON please"
Well I would but I can't afford petrol for the car to move ANYWHERE because they have imposed a national social charge and shitloads of tax on fuel. And now they are using that money they have taken from me (8 million euro) to wine and dine parasitical royal fat cats and US presidents . Can't these useless parasitical rich people use their own money to live it up on their visit if it means so much to them instead of stealing poor people's tax money.
A british bank is one of the the larger shareholders in the corrib field too so the stealing of Irish resources goes on. The company is called Royal dutch shell. Does this woman have a stake in this disaster too? wouldn't surprise me. Northern Ireland is one of the most surveyed areas in the world because it has a geological link to gold deposits in canada where it was once connected millions of years ago. No doubt before they leave they'll wreck the place mining for gold too. A very polluting and environmentally damaging process.
Don't paint these people as harmless innocents. They and their ilk have lived off the backs of the poor for a long time and evidently are still doing so.
Ordinary english people are our friends and brothers and they suffer same as we do under a class system and its related right wing neo con government , but the british establishment and the monarchy are certainly not our friends
Objecting to this visit is neither "progressive" nor "MOVING ON". Quite the opposite. It's losing all self respect.
