REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY SPOKESPERSON, MARTIN OG MEEHAN has expressed his disgust at the latest attempt by the RUC/PSNI colluding with MI5 to blackmail an RNU member from Armagh to betray his community.

Mr. Meehan said; “At around 8.30am yesterday morning an RNU member was stopped at a RUC/PSNI checkpoint on the Newry Road in Armagh. As he waited at the side of the road while his vehicle was searched. Two men in civilian clothes approached him and identified themselves as MI5. The British Agents notified him that; ‘If you work for us, we are in a strong position to help you financially’. They knew his name, details and were acutely aware that he was having some difficulty paying his mortgage. After a few minutes the two MI5 returned to their car which was parked directly behind a RUC/PSNI vehicle. As soon as they left, the political policemen finished searching the RNU members car and he was free to go on.

This incident further demonstrates that the RUC/PSNI are far from independent. They are complicit in implementing draconian laws and serve British political and military interests in Ireland. The Republican Network for Unity reiterate earlier calls from our Network for Human Rights organisations to condemn these appalling activities. We also urge others who find themselves in a similar situation to contact a Solicitor immediately”.
