Trócaire and LASC would like to invite you to a public talk by Juan Ramon Chinchilla and Rudy Hernandez, young community leaders and human rights defenders from the Aguán valley in Northern Honduras.

Trócaire and LASC would like to invite you to a public talk by Juan Ramon Chinchilla and Rudy Hernandez, young community leaders and human rights defenders from the Aguán valley in Northern Honduras. In Honduras, the global biofuels rush is having devastating consequences for rural communities and their access to fertile land on which to grow food as wealthy landowners seek to profit from African palm oil at the expense of peasant farmers. More than 16 peasant farmers were killed in the Aguán region in 2010 over land dispute claims, reportedly by private security guards employed by these landowners. Nobody has been brought to justice for these killings and the communities in the Aguán continue to be at great risk. Juan and Rudy have personally suffered threats and attacks because of their work in defending the land rights of the communities.
