The Irish Government is moving closer to a huge sell-off of the public forests managed by Coillte (The Irish Forestry Board) to private investors. An area greater than 1 million acres, equivalent to two medium sized counties will be lost forever. This will include some of our most valuable native woodlands, wild places and some of the last refuges of our native flora and fauna.
Interest has been expressed by Swiss finance company Helvetia Wealth - who own the International Forestry Fund (IFF) - chaired by Bertie Ahern, (ex-prime minister of Ireland) as well as The China Investment Corporation.

..for wanting to level the trees.
He probably heard there is rope left in the country. Afraid we might have enough arithmetic to put one and one together. So he has to subtract one of the factors. In case the IMF dont confiscate the rope along with everything else.
From Michael Fitzpatrick- quote " act of treason"
23 February 2011
Fitzpatrick very concerned about future of Donadea Forest Park
Local Fianna Fáil TD Michael Fitzpatrick has expressed his concern for the future of Donadea Forest Park in the light of rumours that Fine Gael are going to sell Coilte.
“I am horrified by the rumours that Fine Gael is considering selling Coilte and the impact that this would have on Donadea Forest Park.”
“Donadea Forest Park is a fantastic local resource that is used by local people and visitors and tourists to the area.”
“There is huge community activity in the Park with the Slí na Slainte walks, Christmas markets, and the annual 9/11 commemoration amongst other events.”
It would be an act of treason to sell Donadea Forest Park to foreign interests. Fine Gael must tell us now that they will protect our national parklands. Donadea is a really important part of the community here in Kildare and I am completely opposed to this proposed sale,” concluded Deputy Fitzpatrick.
There is almost nothing left anyway.
I know where there is a pristine 6,000 year old patch of oaks trees in the west.
I tell only scientists.
