Our message to the people of Egypt:

Bring your Flag, any and all flags, and your banners but most of all bring your spirit.

Please help by inviting your friends to this event and sharing it to your profile, and most of all come and stand in solidarity.

Dear Steven,
I do not know who you are or who you represent, but where did this sentence come from "and for that matter the people of Gaza and their blockade of Gaza".
What does blockade of Gaza have to do with few Egyptians in Ireland demonstrating to show their Solidarity with other Egyptian People in Egypt?
Please do not highjak our peaceful demonstration of solidarity to serve your cause.
Thank you

This isn't about hijacking a peaceful protest , Mr Mohammed el Masry. Egyptian demonstrators and Egyptians living abroad have called for international support . They have been using social networking sites to encourage people all over the world to attend protests outside embassies.

Steven is referring to the role the Mubarak regime has played in policing the blockade of Gaza at the besieged Palestinian territory’s southern border at Rafah.

Dear Muhammed,

The "cause" of ending the collective punishment of the over 1.5 million Palestinians imprisoned in Gaza, and organising against the Occupation, is not only the right, but the responsibility of people all over the world, particularly Arabs. There are demonstrations of support for today's demos in Egypt throughout the Arab world, and if you fail to see the connection between Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Algeria, Palestine etc then I think you are buying into exclusive mentality which has corrupted not only the Egyptian regime, but also parts of her society, for too long.. And if you fail to feel solidarity for the people of Gaza and recognise the role of the Egyptian government in upholding an illegal and immoral siege, then I think that you are missing the point, power and beauty of the mobilisations that are finally beginning to take place in the Arab world- which has been asleep for far too long.. People will be at Ballsbridge today to support the brave people across the Arab world that are taking to the streets and their vision of freedom and unity that goes beyond the confines of sectarianism and national borders, and I think suggestions of "hijacking" aimed at those who will come today in good will and with admiration for and solidarity with those in Egypt under attack today, is both unfair and divisive.. In Spanish they say "el pueblo unido, jamas sera vencido"- the people, united, will never be defeated.. Let's try and live that ethos- in action and spirit- a bit more, ya rafik :)

I spent an hour at the protest this afternoon. All that time there was no bad will whatsoever between the Irish and Arab demonstrators .Everything was perfectly peaceful all the time I was there. I would estimate between a hundred and fifty and two hundred people were present - hopefully someone will put up some photos.

The organisers helpfully translated speeches into English . They thanked everybody for coming along and said that there would be another protest there tomorrow at 12 noon. A big cheer went up when it was announced that Alexandria had fallen to the demonstrators and that units of the army had swapped sides to join the protests . Speakers warned that the situation was still very dangerous and that the government had imposed a curfew for tonight.

Would someone be able to do a similar post to Steven's confirming this?

A number of people asked me if it is going ahead but can't find any confirmation. If we could get a post to link to that would be great.

This Dublin demo coincides with the big marches planned for Cairo and Alexandra today where up to a million people are expected . Thousands have already gathered in Tahrir Square , Cairo . The regime has shut down all roads and public transportation to Cairo, according to reports . Train services nationwide have been suspended for a second day and all bus services between cities halted.

Despite the Egyptian army pledging not to fire on demonstrators , protestors’ demands that Mubarak should not only be removed from office but also put on trial have increased the prospects of a violent response from the regime according to the Wall Street Journal this morning .

Much has been made of the army representing the whole of Egypt , but the army like the rest of Egyptian society is divided : between its elite officer corps and young conscript soldiers who mostly come from poor families . The dilemma the regime faces is whether it can count on these conscripts to face down an uprising which is now taking on revolutionary dimensions.
