REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY Spokesperson, MARTIN Óg MEEHAN has criticised charges against RNU members for their involvement in the recent Student protest outside the Department of Finance in Dublin.
Mr. Meehan said; “Alongside others, RNU were proud to demonstrate solidarity with Students and our opposition to a two-tier education system in Ireland. Predictably, sensationalist media pundits and right-wing Politicians demanded that Gardaí suppress future rallies. Within days, a number of RNU Activists were charged with a host of alleged offences.
To date, no Gardaí have been charged with their shameful onslaught against a valid Student protest. Unprovoked attacks should be exposed as another erosion of our civil rights”.
Mr. Meehan concluded; “In our view, working-class families, disadvantaged communities, students and low-paid workers must not endure unfair cuts because of failed politicians, heartless bankers and greedy property sharks”.
