22 members of Mandate trade union are on strike at the former Laura Ashley flagship store on Grafton Street, Dublin's leading shopping area.
Laura Ashley have several other shops in Dublin and are not a loss making enterprise. The company made pre-tax profits of £10.5 million in the first half of this year and are still only offering workers statutory redundancy. They were offering positions in other stores only after an interview process and no one was guaranteed a full time job nor a position at the grade they are currently at which would mean a pay cut for most workers.
The soft furnishings store is taking a hard anti- union stance by refusing to engage with the workers union, Mandate.
