Majority rejects pipeline project
The Mayo-based Connaught Telegraph weekly newspaper ran an on-line poll this week on the Corrib gas pipeline project, with unsurprising results.
As with all previous polls (with the sole exception of a 2006 Shell-commissioned survey) which consistently demonstrated majority opposition to the Shell/Statoil scheme, three quarters of respondents to the Connaught Telegraph poll are opposed to the Corrib gas pipeline.
Q. Corrib gas pipeline - straight up, are you in favour?
A. NO 76.4% YES 23.6%
It probably won't end up being a front-page story next week (despite being a project of supposedly local and national strategic importance) but it is yet another fact that exposes the lie of vast local support claimed by Shell. An Bord Pleanala take note.

in the least influenced by the long lasting and trenchant pro Shell views held by the editor and some of his journalistic colleagues. Time to leave the pitch on Corrib issues Mr. editor.
