A political walking tour through the heartland of the golden circle
On Saturday October 9th a political walking tour through Dublin 2 and Dublin 4 will take place. In this area Banks, private mansions and corporate headquarters sit side by side in the heartland of the ‘golden circle’. The tour aims to highlight the deep injustice at the heart of Irish society
Who are the 1%?
We have all heard of the ‘golden circle’. We all know that there is one law for the rich and another law for the rest of us. But did you know that just 1% of the population are estimated to own at least 34% of the wealth of the country? Property developers, landlords, bankers, barristers, media tycoons, and politicians are amongst this 1% that own so much but contribute so little.
More Cutbacks? Make the 1% Pay!
In next December’s budget the government are going to further slash funding for health, education, housing and social welfare. Yet again the poor are to be made pay for the greed of the rich. It’s time for the 1% to start paying for the mess that they have created.
The Heartland of the Golden Circle
Like nowhere else in Ireland the districts of Dublin 2 and Dublin 4 are littered with the landmarks of the power and wealth of the 1%. Banks, private mansions and corporate headquarters sit side by side in the heartland of the ‘golden circle’.
A Political Tour – A Demand for Justice
On Saturday October 9th a political walking tour through Dublin 2 and Dublin 4 will take place. The tour aims to highlight the deep injustice at the heart of Irish society, an injustice which allows the 1% to remain relatively untouched while millions of ordinary people across Ireland face unemployment, poverty, debt, homelessness and despair.
Join the Tour – See How the 1% Lives
The tour is open to everybody. It starts at 2pm, will cover 3km and finish around 4pm. Come along and add your voice to the demand for a just solution to the current economic crises – a solution that will see the 1% paying their fair share.
Assemble 1pm Saturday October 9th

There is nothing at that website address and it is different to the one on the poster. I think you meant http://www.onepercentnetwork.org/
A huge amount of really colourful posters all over the city. Brillant idea. Its about time the people of this country brought their anger to the doors of the clowns that created the mess that we are now in. People need to join this tour and all the other protests that are being planned between now and the budget. Together we can bring the whole house of cards tumbling down!
John Waters in the Irish Times on the 1%.
Make sure to read the comments of this biased article.
I note that JohnWaters took pains not to mention the website contact address so people could make their own minds up. Rather suspicious.
I guess it's expensive to pay for childcare John, and in these troubled times we all might consider taking any well paid nixers we were offered. The 1% are some of the few people left with any money and are still able to pay rather well I'd imagine
And maybe the 1% are gettting worried about the great unwashed appearing at their doorsteps?
Anyone go to this?
How many attended?
Anything happen at it?
Photos?
Thanks!
About 200 on demo. A peaceful parade in nice weather. I'm sure a full report with pics will appear shortly. We do like to socialise after these events you know.
Excellant march.
Well orgainsed and the speakers were very interesting.
Would have put the numbers closer to 250-300 myself.
It was great to march unrestrcted around the centre of wealth and power in this state. There was a feeling that this could be the start of something big.
The look on the faces of the D4 heads was priceless. They were disgusted to see the great unwased march to their doors and block 'their' roads.
Going on the commentary in the corperate media, it appears this coalition of socialists has ruffled a few feathers.
Keep up the good work!
Could have been more than 200. Interesting to see that the cutbacks have hit the cops. Only three of them at the walk!
To the 1% network - it would be good if someone who attended posted up a report and / or some photos. There were numerous call-outs / build up pieces posted on the newswire, which obviously were drumming up interest in this event - it would be great if you also used the newswire to post some news about what happened at the event. It only takes ten or fifteen minutes but it means the site is used more as a news site rather than just "left spam".
Don't worry indymediator - we're working on a report which should be up here within the hour
