Whilst the Oral Hearing on Shell's pipeline route continues, the last few weeks have seen yet more successful actions against the borehole drilling in the Special Area of Conservation Sruwaddacon estuary.
The drilling work was stopped after the community walked out under the platform. Afterwards people enjoyed the sunshine, picked shellfish and walked along the beautiful estuary. The borehole survey work should have happened before Shell submitted the planning application. Instead Shell keep bringing new data from the borehole work in to the Oral Hearing and trying to submit it as an addendum (one of many!).
Shell have finally admitted in the Oral Hearing that if this pipeline goes ahead, it will be the first of many to go up through the bay. This will put both the community and environment at a huge unnecessary risk. As the Oral Hearing is showing, this project is not safe and is totally experimental.
