Activist Rings Ship's Bell on HMS Vigilant

TRIDENT PLOUGHSHARES Press Release: 8th August 2002

On her release from custody this afternoon Trident Ploughshares activist
Gillian Sloan has been giving details of how she and Dave Rolstone spray-painted Trident submarine HMS Vigilant.

Gillian (40) a social worker from Edinburgh, was arrested last night inside the high security area of the base along with Dave Rolstone (55), a
boat builder from Wales. Tonight she told how the pair swam into the Trident berths at 3 a.m. and spray-painted "Vile" on both flanks of the
submarine, continuing with their work even after being shouted at to desist by the
guards. Dave then climbed on to the boat and rang the ship's bell. Gillian's account completely undermines attempts by the Ministry of
Defence to play down the incident.

Gillian was released after giving an undertaking that she would attend court tomorrow along with Dave who was held in custody because he had
been already arrested this week. It is understood that they are charged with malicious mischief and breaching bye-laws.

Meanwhile an international group of four activists was arrested at the Coulport armaments depot , where Trident warheads are stored. Nina Rodriguez (23), from Bagneux in France, Eoin Dubsky (22), from Ireland, Stream (15), from England and Danny Prior (34), from Livingston in Scotland were held after cutting the perimeter fence there. They were charged with malicious mischief.

Eoin said: "I have taken a pledge to prevent nuclear crime and that's what I came here to do."
