Sunday March 14, 2010 20:02 by Roowyrm and Niall

Musicians and singers, residents of Erris and Shell to Sea supporters from around the country gathered together at Castlerea prison on Saturday 13th March for a public demonstration of solidarity and support for prisoner Pat O'Donnell.
Special thanks to Frances Black for the pleasure of her company and her singing, and to all the musicians which included Gregory Daly on flute, Gerry Harrington on fiddle, Ciara Daly on flute, Seamus and Fiachna O'Mongain on concertina and accordion, Joe Carey on accordion, Rob O'Foghlu on bodhran, Seamus Mac Mathuna on flute, Ide Nic Mhathuna on concertina, Mystery Guest on guitar, singers Naoise O'Mongain, Astrid Ni Mhongain, Brid Smith and Finbar Cafferkey …
… And to Benny Canavan on the pipes who led a march from the prison gates along the prison walls to the prison doors.
Castlerea Prison Gathering at the Gates.
We hope that the music and the cheers were heard loud and clear by Pat and all the prisoners.
Thanks to the prison staff who took messages of goodwill to the Chief in his prison cell.

 Thank you Musicians ...
 ... and Frances Black.

Thanks for the post Niall. I'll be there Saturday week
Wish I could have been there.
Thanks for the article and great pics.
Solidarity to Pat,his family and all those continuing to refuse to lie down in the face of shell and the states brutality.
It's true what they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." One could see the distress, the emotions, and the unflinching support in the posted pictures. We, the Chief's older sisters in the States, are very concerned about his well being and it's reassuring for us to see the enormous amount of support he has. We know that this tribute will raise his spirits and make him proud. A very special thank you to all of you!!!
the pics and the report has sent me to tears - your honesty, integrity There is no price that you and the chief will accept and so all the crimalisation of our local people occurs. Your stand has justice and truth on yer side and this will come out in the end. Ireland is a very corrupt country but your refusal to be corrupted gives me hope for my children. Thank you for your stand-your are doing it for all ireland.
This affair shines an unflattering light on the courts in Ireland. The sentence was greatly disproportionate to the 'crime'. Why was this? Consecutive sentences are an aberration.
Stop for a moment to consider what has probably happened here.
The Chief is no criminal - it's those that put him there should be jailed! Please show your support by any means possible - cards & letters & reading material help allay the boredom of prison.
- The song 'Legal Illegal' performed by Frances Black.
"To poison the rivers the seas or the skies,
And poison the minds of a nation with lies,
It's all in the interest of free enterprise,
Nonetheless it's perfectly legal."
- Reels by the Traditional Ensemble.
- March to the Prison Doors.
Concert at Castlerea Prison for Pat O
It lifts my heart to see all these good people marching and making music for Pat. Keep it up lads!
