Report by Grainne V: On December 31st 2009, 18 people gathered together on Scarriff Bridge to remember the over 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza who were killed by the Israeli Army last year and to stand in solidarity with the survivors of that attack, cynically named 'Operation Cast Lead'. We were one of many groups nationwide who met on bridges around the country at the same time as 1,400 internationals attempted to cross into Gaza through the Rafah crossing from Egypt bringing much-needed aid and solidarity. We also wanted to draw attention to the fact that Gaza has been under siege now for 3 years and, so far, no aid has been allowed over the border, thus preventing any rebuilding of homes or infrastructure. |
