Eco activist Jeff Luers will finally be freed on December 16th 2009
23 year old Jeff was convicted and sentenced to 22 years hard time for the evil crime of setting fire to 3 SUV's in a personal staged act of resistance to make a very strong public statement about global warming. (the SUV's were later fixed up and sold on)
To give you an idea of how political this sentence was, the local attempted axe murderer was sentenced to 14 years and an ex murderer who committed several serial rapes of underage girls got 14 years in the same court.
Meanwhile as mankind finally comes round to the idea that we have to take some drastic action to halt the increase of man made CO2 in the atmosphere, Jeff had to languish years of his young life away in prison with murderers and felons all because he also believed that people needed to be made aware of this, albeit with a little more passion and conviction and using slightly more direct methods for his "act of resistance". Meanwhile in Copenhagen, well paid fat politicians fake it and get brownie points for selling out the environment so their corporate buddies can pollute and profit and keep their heads in the trough for just a little longer.
Send Jeff a post card or an email in solidarity. He spent eight years of his life in prison in the cause of environmentalism. He was treated like a terrorist but he went to great lengths to ensure he didn't hurt anybody. In the US (and increasingly elsewhere), if you are an enviromental activist or an animal rights activist, you are top of the terrorist list because capitalists hate nothing more than people who will damage expensive property for a cause. Much worse than a murderer or rapist because they just kill people or rape them and life is cheap these days isn't it?
