Water crisis as council relies on shopkeepers

17,000 homes are without water on Cork citys' northside an overwhelming working class part of the city. Just 5 tankers have been deployed by the city council to provide water to the 17,000 homes.

City management have decided that they will rely on shop keepers selling water to desperate parents and the elderly to supply the bulk of drinking water to the community. Corks' northside is very hilly and if you don't have a car access to the city councils water lorries would be extremely difficult for many elderly people living any distance from the supplies.

In the meantime the army has been called to protect business interests in the city center.
