Silence on darfur negotiations

category international | crime and justice | press release author Saturday October 24, 2009 11:15author by Brendan Butler - NGO Peace Alliance

The janjaweed are recognised

The rejoicing at the release of Sharon Commins and Hilda Kawuki must be tempered with the behind scenes in negotiations with war criminals

There is irrefutable proof that the Janjaweed , a proxy army funded and supported by the Sudanese Government, is responsible for the continuing genocide , rape and murder of the people of Darfur. Mary Fitzgerald has pointed out in her report in the Irish Times (Oct 24 and 25 ) that its commander, Mr Hilal , was personally asked by the Sudanese president al-Bashir, already cited by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Darfur, to be the main negotiator for the release of Goal aid workers , Mary Commins and Hilda Kawuki.
The questions that now must be asked is :
1. Whether our Minister of Foreign Affairs compromised himself in his dealings with Mr. Hilal . a cited war criminal.
2 . Was any deal done by Michael Martin with the Sudanese Government to channel future development aid through the Sudanese Government.
3. Was the Sudanese Government involved in the abduction of Sharon and Hilda through its proxy army , the Jajaweed, seeing that it was directly involved in their release
3. Is the indictment by the International Criminal Court citing the Sudanese president, al- Bashir , for war crimes in the rape and genocide of the Darfur people being quietly swept under the carpet of diplomatic niceties.
4 Why is the international media relatively silent on these developments
Sincerely
