IFPAL (Irish Friends of Palestine Against Lisbon) will hold a protest outside the European Parliament Offices, Molesworth Street, Dublin on Thursday 5th July between 12:30 and 2:30 pm. The demonstration is to mark the fifth anniversary of the ruling by the International Court of Justice declaring illegal the separation wall being built by Israel on Palestinian land in the West Bank
The demonstration will highlight the EU’s failure to take any action to comply with the Court ruling which emphasised the obligation on all states not to recognise the illegal situation resulting form the construction of the wall and not to render aid or assistance in maintaining the situation created by its construction and the additional obligation on states to ensure compliance by Israel with international humanitarian law as embodied in the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The EU common foreign and security policy facilitates Israel’s continued defiance of the ICJ ruling and its on going genocide against the Palestinian people. The Irish government has shamefully acquiesced with the EU foreign policy ignoring Israel’s flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law. Minister Martin failed to use our veto to block the upgrade of relations with the rogue Israeli state and bound by the common EU foreign policy he continues to promote economic and diplomatic relations with a state which killed over 300 Palestinian children in January.
