solidarity with rossport

The main doors at Shells headquarters were closed to staff at 9am today, 12 June as protesters dressed as ‘thugs' turned up for a job interview. Shell security locked all doors as protesters tried to enter the building for what they said was a job interview "we hear Shell are hiring thugs to sink ships in Ireland".

Protesters tried to enter the Headquarters but the doors were locked as the went in. The doors remained locked for about an hour and a half, despite the various demonstrations the protesters gave of their 'thugery' skills even simulating how they coud hold a fisherman captive why sinking his boat.

One of the protesters Samantha Johnson said "Shell have been hiring hit squads to terrorise local protesters at their activities abroad, as with the Ogoni people in the Niger Delta. Now, they have imported these methods to Ireland. Indeed, last month a former Shell security guard was identified as one of the mercenaries employed in an assassination plot in Bolivia".

This protest is in response to an incident in Rossport, Ireland at 2am yesterday morning where 4 masked men sunk a local fisherman's boat, with the owner and a crewmember still on it. 2 of the men were armed and held the fishermen while the others went below deck to sink the boat.

One of the protesters today Sean Reilly said "This shows the extremes Shell go to, to get what they want. They are willing to put 2 men in hospital for vocally expressing opposition.

Wish I could be back there now, but can only send my symbolic solidarity from here, and, well admiration.

I hope you will get a new boat soon and go back to doing your thing, hope to have you back up and in fighting mode soon, and hope you will get a hero's reception when you come back. cheers for all your sacrifice, you will win, shell will loose! keep up the good fight!

I just wanted to point out that at five of the ten members of the terrorist cell in Bolivia are former or current IRMS employees.

Very strange that Mr O Donnell has refused to make a complaint to the Garda about the incident it is quite clear that this did not happen the way O Donnell says it did. According to the Garda who went to the assistance of the boat in distress that there was no other vessel anywhere near O Donnels boat which to me it seems that he deliberately sunk the boat to try to blame Shell.

The gardai have made them selves enemies of the Shell protestors, they have been working in cooperation with the IRMS security thugs and have witnessed dozens of assaults on peacefull protestors. having assaulted many people them selves, they also continuosly spin lies and deciept about the protesters being IRA terrorists.
After the savage beating by both Gardai and later hooded security thugs of Willie Corduff they told a complete pack of lies on the RTE news saying that a security man was injured by hooded military type assasins, ( protestors)weilding iron bars.
NIETHER WILLIE OR PAT CAN TRUST THESE SWINES, I think that is why they are reluctant to report any thing to them.
This may be a mistake in the eye of the public, enableing doubtors like yourself to hold on to illogical opinions.

UNTRUE. The Gardai have since retracted that remark.
Mr O'Donnell contacted the Gardai and made a complaint over the telephone. Circumstances being what they are did you expect the ambulance to take him to the police station instead of the hospital?

it is quite clear that this did not happen the way O Donnell says it did.

Watch out for this phrase. Polticians and spin doctors use it a lot. When no other evidence is offered (or exists) they will say "it is quite clear" which indicates they are asserting something and don't even 'feel' a need to back it up (or simply don't have the proof) . a glowing example, who loved the phrase is Tony Blair "it is quite clear that he has Weapons of Mass Destruction" "Clearly, he is in breach" etc.

According to the Garda who went to the assistance of the boat in distress that there was no other vessel anywhere near O Donnels boat which to me it seems that he deliberately sunk the boat to try to blame Shell.

According to the Garda? First, look at your source... and these are the same people who said no complaint was made to them, and later had to retract that statement.
Secondly, as is fairly obvious, if you spent some time floating in an inflatable life raft, (which are not equipped with marine radio , hence the need to fire a flare to attract attention) then the culprits had adequate time to flee. And it's not like the cops would be all too interested in chasing them anyway.

You can be pretty damned sure that despite the fact that the sunken vessel is a crime scene, there will be no attempt by the Garda Sub Aqua team to look for evidence of how it was sunk etc.

Go over the newscasts of the last 36 hours on RTEI and TG4 and list the first four head items on each cast and see how the rest of the country compares to events in Erris. Life and limb and crime on ATM machines elswhere rate much higher as well as events from 40 years ago.

Excellent action - reminds us of our efforts at Clonskea HQ of Shell as Ogoni Solidarity Ireland. We were not wasting our time as the Wiwa case has shown this week. We spent many days around Shell in those years.
