Over 13,000 Clerical Officers, Staff Officers and Departmental Grades who are members of the country’s largest Civil Service Trade Union took part in a one hour lunchtime protest picket of Government Offices across the country today, Thursday 19th March 2009. Pickets were placed on all Government Offices between 1.00 and 2.00 p.m.
Also from the CPSU press release:
"This action follows the Union’s protest action last week when a one hour telephone protest took place in all Government Offices in rotation by region each day throughout the week. The CPSU’s action is against the Government’s pay cuts introduced through the pension levy and the deferral of the pay deal due this year.
Commenting on the dispute Blair Horan, General Secretary of the Union said, “CPSU members around the country are still very angry at the Government’s decision to impose pay cuts averaging 6% and deferring the pay deal worth 6% due later this year. CPSU members will continue to resist this attack on lower paid workers. Pay cuts for lower paid workers are not the solution to the country’s problems”, he said."
The CPSU members will be taking further action and are only too ready for March 30th.
