This lecture explores the contribution of women to modern art in Ireland
Women have enjoyed a strong presence in the visual arts in Ireland throughout the twentieth century. This lecture explores the contribution of women to modern art in Ireland with reference to the work of artists like Mainie Jellett, Mary Swanzy, Nano Reid and Norah McGuinness. The lecture will explore whether these women’s artistic careers were confined or limited because of their gender.
