National Public Service Alliance Leaflet For ICTU Demo
Scrap the Levy----National Public Service Alliance
All are strongly urged to turn out with their unions on the ICTU March to-morrow. March begins at 2 pm from Parnell Sq.
Leaflets can be collected at Royal Dublin Hotel, O Connell St, from 1pm on Saturday for distribution in your section of ICTU March. Text of leaflet (not laid out) is set out below.
Next General Meeting of Public Service Alliance, Thursday Feb 26, 8.15PM, Teachers Club, Parnell Sq, Dublin.
All are welcome. Keep up the "grassroots" pressure A very successful and widely representative meeting of public service trade unionists took place on Saturday last in Dublin in response to the imposition of a selective penal tax on public servants.
The national alliance formed at the meeting called for:
Unconditional and complete withdrawal of the "Levy"
A sustained campaign beginning with a one day national stoppage by all public servants until the "levy" is withdrawn
The establishment of a national pension protection fund to pay private sector workers the pensions to which they have contributed
It was noted that:
A 12% discount was applied by Benchmarking Body in respect of public service pensions in the most recent comparison with private sector pay
The wealthiest 1% who have 87 Billion euro in assets (Central Bank Report) will pay no "levy"
The 20,000 senior executives and self employed in the private sector, who are earning in excess of 200,000 Euro per year (Report of Revenue Commissioners) will pay no "levy"
Regrettably, ICTU has not called for the complete withdrawal of the levy
Next General Meeting, Thursday Feb 26, 8.15PM, Teachers Club, Parnell Sq, Dublin.
All members of Public Sector Unions who support the above objectives of National Public Service Alliance and wish to fight to scrap the levy are welcome to attend. The meeting will provide a further opportunity to keep up the pressure from the grassroots against the levy and to network with others of like mind in
other unions
