category galway | arts and media | event notice author Wednesday February 18, 2009 17:55author by Sarah - Amnesty International Galway

A celebration of international womens day.

March 4th The O' Flaherty Theatre NUIG Galway 8pm. Tickets 6/8 Euros available from Amnesty International Fair-trade shop 2-3 Middle St., Galway 091 533637 or on the door.

In this gorgeous and love- affirming feature debut – (a sleeper hit of the 2007 Cannes film Festival) Nadine Labaki finds gold in the hot caramel used to strip body hair! The film is set in a Beirut beauty salon and it connects the lives of six women as they face love and marriage, desire and duty, tradition and possibility.

As the Toronto international film festival noted of this film in it’s programme; ‘There is a new kind of film coming from Lebanon, one that looks past war and politics to the eternal truths or love and passion’. This is a film that appears made to measure for celebrating International women’s day- a film about strong women and directed by a talented new woman director. All proceeds go towards Amnesty International’s work for human rights

This film screening is an annual fundraiser for Amnesty International kindly hosted by both Galway Film Society and NUIG FilmSOC- We appreciate their help.
