To commemorate and celebrate the 6th. Anniversary of the Shannon Peace Camp, on Tuesday, January 6th. Nollaig na mBan, there will be a vigil, with a knit-in, on the roundabout at the entry to the airport starting at 11.00 a.m. It will continue throughout the day until about 9.00 p.m. All are invited to attend. Come for the day or come for an hour. We need your solidarity. Soup and coffee will be available.
People are asked to bring placards and banners to get the message across clearly that what is happening in Shannon remains outside what is legal or acceptable in terms of human rights.
Foreign troops on their way to illegal wars, unsanctioned arms, munitions, and various types of military hardware pass through Shannon Airport almost daily.
We remain complicit in both war and rendition as the government doggedly refuses to search any plane suspected of trafficking prisoners.
We are inviting everyone who knits to bring wool and needles with them to Shannon for the day. If you cannot knit, not to worry we‘ll teach you! If you don’t want to knit, not to worry, we won’t force you! From the various pieces of knitting done by the people at the vigil it is hoped to begin the creation of a Peace Banner.
Bring music, poetry, readings relevant to the theme of peace.
Wrap up warm and we’ll see you there!
