North West Support for Gaza
The North West Solidarity Network have issued a statement condemning the slaughter in Gaza which has hugely escalated since Saturday 27th December with at the time of this press release deaths standing at over 350 people. North West Solidarity Network, which organises events in solidarity with Palestine, has called on people to become involved to provide support for the besieged people of Gaza and for all the Palestinian people.
A spokesperson for the group, Dónall Ó Mearáin, said “we are presently working with other members and branches of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign throughout the country to continuously raise awareness of the situation in Palestine. At present we are working to develop the boycott campaign. Such a campaign was very successful in the fight to end Apartheid in South Africa. We feel humanity does not do not have the option of standing idly by watching such horrendous events without trying to do something to stop it”.
Work on extending the boycott campaign is already well underway in other parts of the country including Sligo, where businesses refuse to take any goods from Israel, such areas will then become known as “Apartheid Free Zone’s”. Organisers believe that this will send a clear message that ‘the world is watching and is taking action’.
There will be a public meeting in Dorrian’s Hotel, Ballyshannon on Monday 19th January. For further information people can contact nwsolidarity@yahoo.com.
