Night Time Robbery
It was great gas in Galway on Friday 14th Nov, exposing the Great Gas Giveaway of 1992, when Bertie Ahern and Ray Burke handed over not only the Corrib Gasfield to Shell Oil but the Erris Peninsula as well.
Galway Shell to Sea gathered in Shop Street to advertise the public meeting to be held on Tuesday 18th Nov in the Imperial Hotel, Eyre Square, Galway, at 8 pm. This will be the first time that the legendary fisherman, The Chief Pat O’Donnell, will be in Galway to tell us the story of how he and his sons in their boats confronted Shell’s pipelaying ship, the “Solitaire.” In time no doubt songs and poems will be written and handed down over generations to commemorate their bravery. Maura Harrington who will also address the meeting is of course no stranger to Galway; she will tell us at first hand what the present situation is in Erris now that yet another initiative is being introduced, the New Forum set up by Minister Ryan and Minister Ó Cuív. Michael McCaughan, author of “The Price of Our Souls: Gas, Shell & Ireland,” will chair the meeting.
