Latest letter from Anarchist prisoner Harold H Thompson

category international | anti-capitalism | news report author Saturday September 20, 2008 01:49author by Belfast WSM

Harold H. Thompson is an anarchist prisoner serving life plus sentences in Tennessee, USA after a series of farcical trials.

Harold is well known for his work as a 'jailhouse lawyer' and copes with prison by fighting for his fellow prisoner in the courts for some semblance of real justice.

"I am an anti-authoritarian, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anarchist revolutionary of proud Irish heritage. I am also a vegetarian and strongly support the animal liberation movement. I stand for civil/human rights and will not break, bend nor be intimidated. I stand in solidarity with all people struggling against oppression but most particularly with my brothers and sisters in the anarchist movement".

I send warmest greetings and friendship from this hate factory gulag! My health continues to improve and my morale is fair in this dismal place. I have heard absolutely nothing from the parole board concerning my executive clemency commutation application. I’ve written to a friend to have them place a phonecall to the official who informed me the application had been accepted. Hopefully that person will be able to find out why I have heard nothing and what is happening. I will let you know when I find out anything.

Earlier today, I received notification from the federal judge presiding over my medical issue lawsuit that the dates for the pretrial conference and trial have been changed from 2nd September to 1st December for the pre trial conference and 15th December for the trial. I honestly look for those dates to be changed too as most, state and federal, about mid December go on annual holidays. I had been studying medical issue prison law preparing for trial next month so now that pressure is off. The wheels of Justice turn slowly and that is a fact in the USA.

At present I have no cell mate after the staff assigned a white racist to my cell recently, who I had to set straight about his smart mouth and racism twice before he decided to move to another cell. I applaud Belfast ABC for holding the picket outside Maghaberry prison in Febuary(http://www.indymedia.ie/article/86067) to raise awareness of abuse and neglect there. I hope there are many demos about the US style prison planned for Magilligan, brother. Prison is more often than not the capitalist system’s solution to housing for the poor. As soon as a prison is built it is filled with new plans for another prison birthed. Prisons secondary purpose is to create fear amongst the people but only the working class and poor to keep them in line.

When the people have had enough of the exploitation crack to say “No More!” and mean it then they will realise the inside of the prisons have great potential for a revolutionary army with nothing to lose. As the gap between the rich and poor grows greater that day has to come as certain as day follows night.

I will close now and look forward to hearing from you again soon, brother. Hello to all with Belfast ABC and the Workers Solidarity Movement. Take care, stay strong and continue to struggle for what is right and against the monster of the earth! They will never get us all!
In struggle and solidarity,
Harold
