Smoggie Queens shows how far BBC comedy has fallen, says Steven Tucker. Let's be honest, there's only one reason the corporation made this awful TV programme, and it's certainly not because it's funny.

Five years on, it's clear that lockdowns were the greatest health economics mistake in modern history, says Martin Sewell. We would have been better off doing nothing.?Next time, we should keep calm and carry on.

Call on Shell to clarify their plans in realtion to the Solitaire and provide a commitment that the plans to lay the early stages of the pipeline be abandoned and that the Solitaire will leave Irish waters immediately.

Whilst I absolutely support the Shell to Sea campaign, or more accurately the campaign against the Corrib Gas Give Away: I do not support individiualist actions such as Maura Harrington going on hunger strike. I admire her conviction and passion but unfortunately it is not going to achieve anything. Understandably those who have given a lot to the campaign are deeply emotionally involved but now more than ever calls for reasoned action.

In order to get people behind the campaign it might be better for us to organise around other aspects of the Corrib issue (i.e. disseminating information about the Corrib gas project, and the scandalous give away of the gas, or providing a blue print to the government on how the state can take back the gas and develop a public organisation to manage the production & distribution of gas in the interest of Irish citizens) . There is an alternative.

A lot of people simply will not attend this vigil because they will not support a hunger strike on the basis of a one persons emotive convictions. It is time for reasoned action if we genuinely want to win. I hope Maura ends her hunger strike and adopts alternative means to stop the Corrib Gas Giveaway.
