Smoggie Queens Shows How Far BBC Comedy Has Fallen Fri Dec 06, 2024 09:00 | Steven Tucker
Smoggie Queens shows how far BBC comedy has fallen, says Steven Tucker. Let's be honest, there's only one reason the corporation made this awful TV programme, and it's certainly not because it's funny.

Monday morning commuters get the message
Photo's from Saturdays demo at the GPO. There will be a daily vigil outside Shell HQ every day this week from 6pm in support of Maura Harrington now on day 7 of her hungerstrike
maura keep up the good work, you have the courge of your convictions and god bless and look after you.happy birthday to you maura,
Have members of the Green Party forgotten how, not long before the last general election, the Party declared its solemn commitment to an independent inquiry into the whole debacle of Shell and Corrib Gas and the unaccountable processes of fragmentary planning permissions, ministerial directives and generally unscrupulous hugger-mugger that have led to the current calamity – a fifty-five year old retired headmistress on hunger strike because no-one in authority will even admit that anything has gone wrong, or that any answer is needed to her dreadfully urgent questions?
The Green commitment was of course dropped when the Party slid into government: it can be revived, it should be revived, it needs to be revived, now. Gas can wait, a woman’s life can’t. All work on the Corrib Gas project should stop until the truth of the project’s history is properly exposed; Maura Harrington might be induced to come off her hunger strike; the Green Party might conceivably regain its credibility in protecting the environment, assailing corruption and implementing the planning laws. Shell itself is presently co-operating with inquiries in the US concerning "gift-giving," and is therefore vulnerable. Now is the time for the Green rank-and-file to seize the golden moment.
I am just off the phone after speaking with a friend who voted for Dan Boyle and attempted to hold him accountable this morning. All the usual excuses were reiterated and the bottom line was that the deal will never be re conceived. He also said that he did not care about votes ! ( He lost his seat here in Cork S. central and look at him now ! ). Cork Shell to Sea are intending to hold the Greens accountable as visibly as possible starting soon.
Agreed. Time to turn the light on the Greens especially their Ministers.
They claimed that they went in to power to do something about the low standards in public governance in this country. Instead, they have sunk very quickly to those abysmal levels themselves.
Protests outside Shell HQ and Shell stations are OK - fair play to all. However, in the shank of the evening, Shell don't give much of a damn about them as they have the green light from the Greens amongst others to ram home this "Frankenstein" project.
Time to turn the lights on the former environmentalists who are now bedding down with one of the most prolific polluters in the world. Time to rename Green Party HQ in Suffolk St, Dublin ROYAL DUTCH SHELL PUMPING STATION
Reports are coming through that a soli action took place in London today t SAllSeas London Office and lso the Irish Embassy
Another Solidarity demo is about to take place in Dublin at 6pm (second demo of today)
Onwards!
About 50 people turned out tonight to show their support for Maura Harrington and Shell to Sea.
The vigils will continue at 6pm every day and there will be a fast in solidarity with Maura from 6pm-6am outside Shell HQ with films to be projected on the exterior of the building.
