Public Debate with Hugh O’Shaugnessy .
After the bloody US-sponsored crush of democratic alternatives of social reform in Latin America during the ‘70s and the following decades of dictatorship and military rule, a new wave of reform has swept the continent in the wake of the 21st Century challenging Neoliberal orthodoxy and the so-called “End of History”.
How much room for social reform have the Latin American “progressive” regimes? What are the continuities of social reform for the last half a century? What is the novelty –if there is any- on the new wave of reform?
Hugh O’Shaugnessy is a reporter with four decades of experience covering Latin American issues. He has corresponded regularly to The Observer and the Financial Times.
