The sugar tax sums up Britain's descent into a technocratic dystopia, says Dr David McGrogan. While our Government does almost nothing well, it remains a world-leader in passive-aggressive, surreptitious nudging.

The US-UK trade deal announced today is a clear win for Trump, says Sam Ashworth-Hayes, leaving the UK worse off than in March and opening up UK markets in exchange only for reducing recently imposed tariffs.

As in Canada, so in Australia, the crushing defeat of the conservative Liberal Party by Labour has been widely blamed on Trump. But in truth, Peter Dutton and his team only have themselves to blame, says Prof James Allan.

Bertie Ahern hands in his Resignation

category dublin | history and heritage | event notice author Tuesday May 06, 2008 13:11author by Laura Report this post to the editors

Let's give Bertie the send-off he deserves

Bertie Ahern will this evening hand his resignation in to President Mary McAleese, at Aras an Uachtaran, and good riddance too. There will be a demo there at 5pm so that we can give him the send off he deserves.

During Bertie's watch, we saw our heritage being bulldozed at tara. Ireland is fast disappearing under concrete, while public transport remains neglected. Shannon, Rossport, the health service, civil rights, accountability, transparency-all have been assaulted under Bertie's reign.
The Housing Act amendments now mean that protesters are being criminalised. Bertie openly spoke of his admiration for the Chinese authorities, and declared that he would love to have the same powers as they do.
No doubt, Mahon will not be Bertie's last tribunal. In years to come, he will most likely be a figure at the tara tribunal, along with Noel Dempsey and his other cronies.
Since he announced his resignation, there has been an extraordinary amount of sycophantic behaviour and comments, as though the man was some sort of saint.
So let's all head down to the Aras today, and remind people that the man is a crook.
Sure, it's a lovely day for it!

Unaware of this. Please refer. And yes, he's a crook, but he's a cunning and ruthless crook with an eye on a rosy future he doesn't deserve.

The amendment I'm talking about is the one that made trespass a criminal rather than civil matter.

Some of the good humoured Protesters at the Boyne today enjoying the sunshine.

Indeed why should Bertie leave to the sound of applause only!!! Good riddance.
