When a PhD on the "politics of smell" trended on X recently it exposed how elites use pretentious woke gobbledegook to exclude the people from power, much like previous generations used Latin and Greek, says Steven Tucker.

“I think anyone with an ounce of sense would go for a shore-based terminal. Look at the whole history of this project, it is politically tainted. This way we would get the gas more quickly,” said Deputy Higgins yesterday (Monday).

That is hardly Shell-To-Sea, it seems the campaign has two differing opinions' people who wants Shell to refine off-shore, and a "delegation of north Mayo community members" who now seems to be happy to have it refined on-shore.
Perhaps this should be clarified by the campaigners, so as we know what they are seeking!
The announcement of a pipeline route by Shell and Statoil signals further failure by the Corrib developers. The reality is that there is no consent for an inland refinery or any production pipeline in our community.
This proposed route announced today literally cuts through the heart of our community. It exposes not just the people of Rossport but the people of the entire parish of Kilcommon to unprecedented and unacceptable risk. We do not give our consent to this and will resist it through every legal, political and campaigning means open to us, even though this could lead to more years of unnecessary conflict.
This entire project has been the cause of untold misery, strife and unhappiness for our families and community. Our duty is to protect and defend the integrity and safety of our place and people.
This conflict can be resolved if there is a genuine willingness on the part of Shell and Statoil to reach agreement and secure real consent. The tragedy is that there has always been a better way. What we need is resolution and agreement, not the forced imposition on an unwilling community of an unwanted and unsafe project.
The fact still remains is that pipelines are very very dangerous. As a matter of fact Production pipelines such as the one they want to put though Rossport do not have to report accidents, leaks spills and explosions. In the last 20 yrs. there have been more than 1911 incidents in Transimission pipelines , this is the same one that leaves the Bellinaboy site and goes all the way to Galway, over 300 injuries and deaths. $762,885,387 worth of property damage. Distribution pipelines that go all over the country had more than 2882 accidents, incidents, over 1816 injuries and deaths. Over $ 859,344,193 worth of property damage. ADD All those numbers up an tell me it's safe to run ( $h£ll says 144 bar ) unknown high pressure raw gas pipelines though your area, crossing the only 2 roads in or out.
Let the games begin. Shell do not have a hope in HELL of getting that pipeline in and connected !!!.Sea u on the Battle field ^^^.
Sure didn't we oughter thank Shell fer creating the Biggest Building Site in Ireland.....with all those jobs offered, what matter a little pollution, leukemia, chronic illness, and potential for disaster, never mind the ruinous Health Service and crumbly infrastructure?
Looking at the drawing of the new pipe route in the Irish Independent drove me to despair. I blush for the technical expertise that could have offered such a contortion - plasticine model on a primary school desk. Shell Statoil Marathon and RBS do you value your reputations and are your profesionals driven to obey mad demands.
