Trouble at Rath Lugh

category international | environment | news report author Thursday April 10, 2008 09:14author by TaraTaraTara Report this post to the editors

Baseball Bats and Balaclavas

Update from camp at Rath Lugh

New Tunnel Filled In

Yesterday 13 Security entered beyond the fence line into Rath Lugh and filled in a new tunnel with cement. The tunnel like structure was 15-20 ft away from the boundary fence and work commenced on it 3 weeks ago. One Garda was present during the time of filling it in.

There have been renewed threats to evict the new Front Line Camp which was moved closer to the same boundary fence just recently. The small shaft like tunnel was only a few feet deep and designed for a lock in in the face of an eviction.

ATTACKS

There have been several attacks recently against camp members under cover of night by Security wearing balaclavas and carrying baseball bats. Last week they stole the Generator and then returned it minus the fuel cap and with mud in the oil and petrol, rendering it useless. This Generator is a vital part of equipment used to recharge mobile phones, cameras and laptops and is essential for communication with the outside world as well as other functions.

A new Generator is needed to replace the one that was vandalised along with other necessary equipment. Please donate what you can to the Direct Action .

Can traps be laid out for them? Time to fight fire with fire.

author by Con Connor - Ireland's Druidschoolpublication date Thu Apr 10, 2008 15:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The high moral ground has been held by the Protectors of Tara at all times. They are champions for our culture and heritage.

The mad dog who says - "Can traps be laid out for them? Time to fight fire with fire." is not even slightly aware of the way of the passive non violent direct action at Rath Lugh. He should be ignored or restrained / retrained. It is morally wrong to try to get the Protectors of Tara to lay out traps or to fight as it is legally wrong.

Instead send them your support - quote

Its called self defence and if I were under threat of attack I would be thinking up a counter attack too! These thugs are preying on defenceless unarmed people in the middle of the night! Obviously their aim is to intimidate and to drive people away through fear. Rath Lugh is more resilient than they think!

Yes, the tactic of attacking people in the night is low-life stuff. It only shows how desperate they are. You should also take it as a badge of honour on how effective you are. I fully understand the desire to fight back but be sure that no matter how justified this is, it will be turned around in the media to paint the protectors as violent low-lives. They probably have the stories written already.

Beating up some hired security guys would not help Tara anyway. They would be replaced by more and the defenders would be back to square one, only this time with a lot of bad press.

The attempt to goad the defenders into violent action is typical of such situations. When they cannot do it from outside they may try, if they have not already, to place someone on your side of the barricades to throw the first punch.

Stay calm, be dignified and never stoop to the level they want you to.

Yeah you are right Bazooka Joe, fighting back would be a disaster. I was thinking more like trapping them in some way and holding them until Gardai arrive. That would be one way of dealing with them.

Hi all,
I've just received a phonecall from the RL camp. They have been served a second and final eviction notice from Coillte and the Gardaí. There are three Coillte people and two Gardaí onsite just now.
There is a long list of reasons, erecting tents, toilets, impeding the use of the amenity, cutting trees, preventing the public from enjoying the amenity etc.
They will be holding a meeting tonight.
I suggested that they try to negotiate a stay until the weekend.
They will need a huge amount of help with this and a lot of those people who were there are gone and there are a lot of new people on site.

Eviction, the latest weapon against the Protectors of our Heritage. There will be an update in due course.
