Raji Sourani of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza will give a talk on the 3rd of April concerning the siege of Gaza and Israel's atrocities in the coastal strip.
Raji is one of the foremost human rights lawyers in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and has been recognized globally for his tireless efforts for justice and peace in the region.
He is a Vice-President of the FIDH (Paris) and a Jurist with the International Commission of Jurists. He is the recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Award for human rights and the French Government Award for Human Rights.
PCHR is a longstanding partner with Irish organizations including Trócaire and Christian Aid as well as with Irish Aid.
Raji’s work has been focused on human rights violations by the Israeli occupation as well as the litany of violations under the Palestinian Authority, including vocal criticism of both Hamas and Fateh.
He is a leading member of the Palestinian-led campaign to ‘End the Siege on Gaza’ and has been a vocal critic of the role of Israel and the European Union in imposing a humanitarian catastrophe on ordinary civilians inside the Gaza Strip.
As a result of his unwavering support for universal human rights Raji has spent time in both Israeli and Palestinian jail cells.
This meeting is organised jointly by the Trade Union Friends of Palestine and the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
