A city police chief who led an investigation into charges that Britain cooperated with secret CIA flights to transport terrorism suspects without formal proceedings has been found dead, his deputy said Tuesday.

Manchester Chief Constable Michael Todd, 50, was found dead in Snowdonia, about 240 miles northwest of London, Deputy Chief Constable Dave Whatton said. He had been missing since going out for a walk Monday during his day off.

Whatton said the body, which was found Tuesday afternoon, had not yet been formally identified but he believed it was Todd.

[....]

Todd was elected vice president of the Association of Chief Police Officers of England and Wales in 2006, according to a biography on his Web site.

The association gave him the task of looking into accusations that Britain allowed the CIA to use the country's airports to fly terrorism suspects to other countries without any extradition hearings, a clandestine procedure known as "extraordinary rendition."

Todd's investigation concluded last June that there was no evidence to back the claim. Last month, however, Britain admitted one of its remote outposts in the Indian Ocean had twice been used by the United States as a refueling stop for the secret transfer of two terrorism suspects.

The loss of Chief Constable will be felt by our community.

The Lesbian and Gay Foundation would like to pay tribute to Michael Todd, who for the last six years as Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, worked with colleagues to tackle hate crime and helped to improve policing with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people across the region.

Another whistle blower died after walkies too, didn't he? Back during the Blair regime & attention to how the WMD dossier got faked. Hmmmmmmm. Walkies with mother nature might yet become the 21st century convenient swansong equivalent of the electoral victory / dias bravery heart attack in the 1970's or the wonky plane in the 1990's. Oh yes. Every decade has its convenient way to go.

I read a good interview with Trevor Paglen last week, the man is a geographer who specialises in anamolies which indicates secret bases & dark prisons. He traces rendition flights & estimates at least 100 people have been renditioned by the CIA since Bill Clinton. Which is slightly up on the estimate from the European investigation. Anyway, he did a talk over here (where i live) (which isn't over there wherever you are) and when asked why he hadn't been nobbled - he responded quite naively - "I'm californian and white". I just reckon he doesn't go on walkies with mother Nature. & he said the same thing during his print interview. So I reckon it's a stock response.

Here's his website -
http://www.paglen.com/
here's his last appearance when he said the thing about being white & californian. http://theinfluencers.org/en/trevor-paglen I'm trying to remember something else he said too about Shannon. Shite mind like a sieve. OH yes. I asked him about the Cocaine front companies. Coz as we know the CIA is a civilian agency (just like Mossad or Shin Beth) and so if you know where to look you can follow it all over the shop, but you can't do that to with Mi6 or DGSE or the FIB/KGB and as the more experienced of us remember you had no problem tracking the CIE and P&T. "how much coke you reckon is going through Shannon" asked I to the chap. "Loads" he said back to me.

Well now. Our gardai must be scared shitless of mother nature otherwise they'd be checking & confiscating.

........."Michael Todd, the chief constable of Greater Manchester, had high levels of alcohol in his bloodstream when his body was found on a north Wales mountainside, the inquest into his death was told today. The doctor who conducted a post-mortem examination said he would withhold his opinion on the cause of death pending toxicology tests on Todd's blood. But he confirmed the father-of-two did not die as a result of falling. His body had no major injuries, only "superficial" cuts above the right eye, on the nose, the left shin and the right hand, consultant pathologist Dr Anthony Caslin said. The coroner, Dewi Pritchard Jones, told the inquest he had decided to give details about Todd's body at the inquest opening in order to "allay suspicion and fears" created by false media reports. Normally, an inquest opening is a very brief procedure with no details of death given. "We are hearing this evidence today to get rid of some of the ridiculous stories I have read in the papers and had put to me over the last day," Pritchard Jones said. Police are examining whether the 50-year-old police chief killed himself. Todd was found to have 105 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system, Caslin said. The legal limit for driving is 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres........"

Being a cop be it plod or Bergerac should never be a job for life. You attract the wrong people that way.

The Guardian`s Duncan Campbell reports on the pressure on the UK's top police officers :-
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/mar/13/ukcrime.police

(seemingly they're a very troubled bunch). Just in case you don't know how bad the Brit Plod are, here's a wonderful video on how bad coppers over there can be. A decent police officer goes undercover inside Leicestershire Police 'Service' and uncovers a 'culture' of laziness, indifference, lies and ... todos » outright incompetence which should shock any decent person enough to demand that the police get their act together and do the job they are paid to do. Since this documentary was first released in April 2006, most shockingly of all, not one of the 'police officers' exposed has been sacked or disciplined........
