Spanish repressive ofensive intensifies
Basque pro-independence spokespersons Pernando Barrena and Patxi Urrutia were arrested on Monday by Spanish police.
The arrests come just 24 hours after the pro-independence movement launched a campaign of public talks to inform the Basque people about the failed negotiation process and to gain massive support for the "Proposal for a Democratic Framework".
This new repressive attack it's been seen as an attempt to silence the pro-independence movement when there are just a few weeks left until the Spanish general elections of the 9th of March.
The "Proposal for a Democratic Framework" is a commun ground agreement proposal to be reached among Basque political parties, trade unions, social movements...etc. which would ultimately bring an end to the hard and long political and armed conflict.
It suggests an autonomy for the four southern Basque provinces with self-determination and another autonomy for the recognition of the three northern Basque provinces under French rule.

Today after being taken before the judge in the Spanish Special Court pro-independence spokespersons Pernando Barrena and Patxi Urrutia have been sent to prison.
In the meantime, pressure and threat to ban the two remaining legal political parties from the left pro-independence movement is increasing. EHAK/Basque Communist Party of the Basque Lands has 9 MP's at the three western Basque provinces local parliament and ANV/Basque Nationalist Action is the 80 year-old party who fought Spanish fascism in the 1936 war and has hundreds of councillors and mayors all around the Basque Country.
