No Welcome for the English Queen
Dozens of demonstrators today descended on Bertie Ahern's Drumcondra constituency office to let him know that Elizabeth Windsor is not welcome in Ireland.
The protest, organised by éirígí, was called in response to Ahern's announcement on RTÉ radio that an invitation for Windsor to visit the Twenty-Six Counties would be extended in the near future.
Today's protest showed that such a visit is clearly unacceptable while the occupation of the Six Counties continues and Britain's border remains.
In the words of James Connolly: "I would have more respect for the most wretched child of the poorest labourer in Ireland than for even the most virtuous of that long array of adulterers, madmen and murderers that have sat on the English throne."
