John Monaghan explian the importance of the coming weekend, its connections with the struggle of the Ogoni population in Nigeria. He also looks at the hollow rhetoric of democracy, law and order as experienced by the local community in West mayo, increasingly harrassed by the state through it violent arm of the guards.
