Solidarity with the Burmese people in Galway A poignant and moving event at the Spanish Arch last Saturday 6th October – Galway was one of the 100 cities taking part in the solidarity events round the world. There was a gathering of artists and activists in response to a call from Sunny Jacobs – author of Stolen Time, her account of the 15 years she spent on Death Row in a US prison after being wrongly convicted for murder. The gathering included Little John Nee, Margaretta D’Arcy, John Arden, Peter Pringle, Angela Byrne and her daughter Beatrice and son Barney, Finn Arden, and a wonderful trio of busking musicians with a harp. Flowers were given out to hundreds of Saturday afternoon passers-by to throw into the river. Red Fuchsia (sometimes called “God’s Tears) floated downstream to join the tears of hope of the Burmese people.
